~For clarification, where are you Jette and Aris? Still in my camp?~
Syn and fifty men on horse back rode slowly back into the camp. Syn managed to hold his head high, but the other men were too tired. He was back early, but to return with fifty men out of 1250? Other men that had stayed at the camp came out at the sound of horses. Syn wished he had come in at midnight. They saw the number that had returned and guessed what had happened.
"Dammit," he muttered to himself. It didn't matter how many metals the men who returned wore, or how shiny their new armor was (all gifts from Ciost for saving him from certain doom), this would sink moral faster than a freighter filled with lead.
After his long march through the thousand rows of tents that housed his men, he finally reached the little clearing that held his tent. He immediately took of his armor and fell asleep on the pile of mats that was his home away from home.
Syn had a dream, a very disturbing dream. First, there was a child that looked like a young Riyo (the childhood Syn) running from something. Syn couldn't tell what, but the fear that drove him was horrible. Then, all the sudden it was Syn riding into Matoyas. He was followed by his army, all running full speed. They crashed through the gates as a wave destroys a sand castle on the beach, and they continued washing through the town, killing anyone standing in their way. Finally, Syn was atop the Mansion Hill of the Mayor of Matoyas waving his own flag, not Ciost's atop his victory. But then, some large black fog came and started killing his army. One by one, Kafka, Dak, Rrike (all field commanders under Syn) and last, Mimiko. One by one they choked and died like they were drown. Then, last, Syn stood alone against a mighty force, and was utterly destroyed by it. Torn apart, pain beyond reckoning. Then, Syn woke up, unaware of his peaceful tent surroundings. This is bad, he thought to himself. That was a prophetic dream of defeat. But I don't even know why! What could have caused such death? Riddled with thoughts, Syn drifted back into an uneasy sleep.
~I added the dream because I wanted to have it at some point and this was perfect~

In the shadows, Saia watched as Syn and his men return. She had been watching the camp for a day, not for sure what had happened. Mainly, she was just resting. After traveling for 10 days, on the run from the athorities of multiple places, it was nice just to sit back and relax. Saia was running low on food and water, however. At night she would just have to. . .borrow some frm the camp.
Later that night. . .
Crouching low, and clutching her canteen, Saia carefully creeped over to the barrel of water nearby a tent. A few men were still awake, muttering darkly about the next day. Quietly, she dipped her canteen into the water, fulling it up. Next, Saia walked stealthly over to the crates of food, nabbing some bread and meat. Smiling with satisfaction, she stood up (she was crouching before) and started walking back over to her hiding spot, when a man with white hair stepped out of his tent.

Syn's head was reeling from getting too much sleep and not enough norishment. He walked out of his tent slowly, not really looking around. Then he noticed the visitor. Syn's hand went to his sword as he realized he didn't have armour on, just regular clothing. "Who are you, and what the hell are you doing in my camp?" Syn said, nervous and angry. He was not in the mood to be shocked. That, and the fact a well placed blow would kill him without his armour, put him on edge. "Well, what say you?"

"Thank you." Orianne said in a carefully stiff voice, trying to ignore the fact that the person she was talking to had red hair. Of course, everything they said was a lie, so now she just needed to head east instead of west. She nodded goodbye to the red-headed person and shuffled away down the street. She kept her eyes on her feet so that way she couldn't trip over a loose cobblestone. Well, this wasn't too bad. The group was really slow on their feet. They couldn't have gotten far, could they?
Orianne quickened her pace, moving to walk closer by the buildings where there were more people but less carts or horses. She kept her hand clamped firmly over her bag, worried that Raina might fall out and get lost. It was foolish to have brought the doll along, but she hadn't wanted to leave it at home and risk having her mother have a spout of generosity and give it away to some little girl.
Orianne paused, turning down a smaller street and then stepping into the shade of a doorway. She pulled the little wood and straw doll out of her bag and smiled at it. Yes, still safe. With a sigh she put the doll back, feeling slightly more relaxed. What would she do now?
West right? Or was it East? It was East. East was that way. Orianne moved out of the shade into the dying sunlight and started back toward the main street.
*^* Llama, don't do the whole 'later that night' thing, some people's characters are still in day time. Thank you.

"Jesus. It's a damn good thing we decided to turn around and fetch Mimiko." Zephyr sneered. This was quite amusing really, considering the fact that a prodigious was all jumpy over a hardly armed petty theif. He walked over to the girl.
"My my dearie. I'm afraid that won't do. You've decided to steal from the wrong people. But..." He then turned to Syn. "It's not for me to decide weather or not you should live. I'll leave it up to you, Syn. I'm just going to watch the show." He walked over to a pile of crates and sat down, then motioned for Takira to join him.

Syn muttered and waved her off. He was awake, and had more important things to do than punish some random person for stealing a little food and water. He turned to look around for Mimiko. She wasn't there, so Syn sighed and decided to raise the army himself. He walked over to the small stage set up the middle of the mass of tents.
"Soldiers! Hear me!" Syn roared so everyone could hear. "You now have a choice. I am rebeling against Ciost to create a new nation!" He waited, and let the army talk amongst itself. "So here is your choice. Those still loyal to Ciost may leave with horses and gold." Syn motioned towards the stables. "Those of you loyal to me will ride toward Matoyas, and towards Victory and Reward!" He raised his sword into the air and yelled "Onward, to victory, or run in cowardice."
He waited twenty minutes for men to leave. He saw at least a thousand leave, wether it was out of loyalty to Ciost or just taking advantage of a free ride out, he was now down to two thousand men. "Damn," he said under his breath. "More then I hoped, but less than I expected." Syn then lit a red firework that he had kept on the stage since they had gotten here. "Now, we march! Towards a bright and wonderful future!"
The men started to pack up and prepare themselves for the force march to Matoyas. It would be a long night, but this would allow them to get there by dawn and set up a perimiter before their defences noticed that an army was parked on their doorstep. Syn had already had some extra men take down his tent, and he walked to his horse to don his armour and discuss stratagy with the other Field Commanders.
~Sorry for kind of ending that without waiting for Llama, but I need to start moving 'cause I gotta end this by tommorow night~

Saia watched as Syn and some of his men rode off. Earlier that day, he had challenged her because she was intruding on his territory, but she really had no choice. Thinking fast, she gathered up her things, and sprinted to Syn and his horse. "Syn!" Saia called to him, "I wish to come with you to your 'new nation'. I know I have done nothing to deserve your respect, but I am in need of a place to rest and return to after my travels. I have many enemies, but, if need be, I will fight along side you." Saia looked at him hopefully, fully aware of the stares she was getting from Syn's men. They obviously hadn't seen a woman with a mind of her own for a while.

Why are all these women signing up all the sudden?! Syn thought as he stared at Saia. First Mimiko (who I don't know where she ran off too) and now this new person, Saia? Syn sighed. "Fine. Me and the commanders will be riding slowly so you should be able to walk besides us. If not, you can walk with the infantry." He thought he sounded a bit cruel, but he really couldn't think of anything else to do. He turned back towards the ten Field Commanders that were stopped, waiting for him to catch up.
"Alright. We already know that they have ten ft. walls and one wooden gate, but do we know of any other defenses?" Syn asked when he returned. "No. Appearently, they had a alliance with one of the old Kingdoms we steamrolled in the '65 campaign, and never made a new one," Seta answered with confidence. He was the lead intellegence gathering force in Syn's army and had incredible memory and research skills (which, considering libraries are few and far between is a awesome skill indeed). "Aye, but what about their army or navy? Do they have any force of their own?" Dak questioned. "Nada! Zilch! We could walk in with one hundred men and still win!" Seta laughed as he exclaimed his answer. "Which is why I want absolutly NO b ombardment of the town." Syn commanded. "I don't want to be the proud King of a pile of rubble. We will use a battering ram to clear the gate, and possibly two siege towers, but no more." "M'kay." The siege commander Iosen answered. "No 'ardment. Got it." "As for the infantry. NO (sensor-Syn is getting carried away) LOOTING! No raping, none of that! We want these people to become our citizens! Not rebels waiting to kick us out." Syn ranted. He had good reason too. The first city he ever conquered turned against him and repeled him because his untrained infantry pillaged the city and cause uproar and hatred. "Now, where is Mimiko?"

Zephyr walked up behind Syn. "I was wandering the exact same thing. Why don't you send some of your precious army to look for her?" He smirked. If he played it right, he could easily have his revenge and a nice bonus, an entire country.
This is getting better by the minute. I could have an entire COUNTRY if I play my cards right. For now, however, I'm going to lay low. And seriously, where is that annoying little child....

Syn looked back at Zephyr. "No. I didn't force her to join, and if she has ran off, that is her decision," he said calmly. He noted the scheming look in Zephyr's face. "So, what are you to us? An ally? Some fool who is just passing by? Or a traitor?"
While Syn waited for Zephyr's answer, he had an official tally be ran by Seta's intelligence unit. He had 1253 soldiers, 722 calvary, and 57 siege engineers and siege workers (total of 2032 people). Syn nodded when he received the report. His army was still together and he had good numbers.
There was a problem though. Matoyas was a Port, and Syn had no navy, and no idea of how to lead a navy. He had no ships, no experience, he didn't even know if there was another nation across the sea to which he might become an enemy.
"Seta, what do you know about the other nations across the water?" Syn asked carefully, trying not to sound worried in front of the Field Commanders. "Nothing. Except the fact that there are many other nations on the four known continents, not including this one." Seta answered in an ashamed voice. He was not used to having no information, and was disappointed in himself.
Kafka rode up after a long absence from the meeting. He was Syn's number one commander, and the two were good friends. He was also an excellent rider of horses and Field Commander of calvary. He lead the scout division as well as the heavy and light assault calvary. "We're about an hour from the town. We should get people in position, because in thirty minutes our forest cover will be gone." "Right," Syn said, back in his authoritative commanding voice. "Field Commanders dismissed. Get your men in position for an assault as soon as the city is in sight. Quick and fast, before their defenses can be raised. Siege units to the front, make a mad dash for the gate as soon as you clear the forest, horse archers support them. Infantry need to be right there for when the gate is broken, I don't want us standing around like we've never sieged before. Go!"
The stage is set, the pieces are moving, it's almost time Syn thought as the wheels turned in his head and excitement built in his chest.

" SYNNNNNN!!" Mimiko exclaimed, quickly pulling on her yellow coat as she dashed over him. She had just gotten out of a nice sleep and had only enough time to throw on a pair of leather breeches and a tough leather hunting shirt she had gotten from her father, along with her dependable boots, her yellow jacket, and red bow. She had her knives at ready, and the Jirai Bell was in hand and her pack was on her back.
" Syn!!" Mimiko cried joyously as she hugged her friend tightly. " I'm glad you're back! I see you've met Zephyr and Aris, they're really cool, aren't they? They like my soup!"
She beamed and stepped back sheepisly, blushing and shifting from foot to foot. She noticed Saia and grinned. " Nice to meet you, I'm Mimiko, but no time for talk now, we're going to attack a city!" She beamed and turned back to Syn, blushing again. " What can I do, Syn? I'll do anything to help! I saw some of the army guys leave, will we still have enough?"

Syn smiled. Always so eager to help, Mimiko. He really did like her, which was surprising because Syn didn't warm up to almost everyone this quickly. He vaguely recognized the look she had in her eyes, but he just couldn't pull the memory out. Probably still sealed inside Riyo... Syn thought before addressing Mimiko's question. "Yes, we'll be fine. We have plenty of men." Syn said as he stopped and held out her hand to help Mimiko up. He pulled her up and handed her a map of the city skewered with some pins. "This is our troop placement. You see these green pins? Those are the siege engineers and their weapons and equipment. The yellow, orange, and red are different kinds of calvary. Blue and purple are soldiers and archers." Syn watched Mimiko's expression of concentration as she poured over the maps.
Kafka rode off and came back right as they left the forest. Half a mile away, the sun rose over the port city of Matoyas. "Alright. Seta, are we in position?" Syn asked, taking back the map and glancing at it again. "Aye, sir." Seta asked confidently. "Iosen, are the battering rams in position?" Syn asked. "'er in position." Iosen said proudly. Syn took out his enchanted field telescope and focused on the walls. The gate was closed because the sun wasn't far enough up and the all the guards weren't fully awake. "Good." Syn said, hardly believing that this was happening so easily. "Kafka, commence."
Kafka fired the flare.
The battle began.
The battering ram charged, covered by the calvary archers. The guards were easily sniped off by the archers, but not in time to stop them from lighting the warning flare. With his spy glass, Syn could see the men running toward the gate, not fully aware of what was going on. "Finally. About damn time." Syn said with impatience. The lack of fighting and proper city defense put him on edge, remembering the siege of Hirikua (Ciost's capitol that Syn ran off to save) usually lead to an ambush later. "Come on people," Syn said, offering the others horses. "Let's go to town."
