Zephyr couldn't believe his ears. Finally, someone was planning a rebellion. He had waited for this moment since he had watched that accursed Ciost had became the King's lap dog. He had taken his position. Ciost had gotten him ousted. Ciost had made him suffer. And he wasn't about to let someone else kill him. And what was even better was the head general, the main military power, Syn was planning to betray the king! He could get his position back with this information. But that would be to easy. No, he didn't want his old position back anymore. He wanted revenge.
He followed the duo into the woods and watched them from a distance. He decided he would reveal himself when the time was right. The pair then entered the clearing. He could hear Syn introducing the girl to the army. Although that was all nice, Zephyr was in shock that most of the army was positioned here instead of in the capitol. After the girl dashed into the mess tent, he decided it was time to reveal himself.
"Hello, Syn. Do you remember me? Oh, no, you wouldn't. You weren't even in the castle when I was there. Now, before you reply, think of this. Why shouldn't I turn you into the King for planning treason?" He smirked as he asked this last question, eagerly awaiting the response from the young general.

Orianne blinked a few times, wondering whether or not to open the door. It was cooler in here then it was outside, and it was nice and dark. That and she could hear people talking outside. That didn't matter to her too much, however. It was easier to rock back and forth on her heels while she decided what to do next.
First of all, she would need to find something to eat. Second of all she had to relocate the pilgrims. Third and most important, she had to avoid the other people at all costs. People complicated things, especially when they started talking. Oh how stupid other people can be. Who really cares where her guardian was? Aunt was somewhere on the other side of the country by now.
Orianne took a deep controlled breath, savoring the musty taste of the air. She was reluctant to open the door even more now. Surely it would be hot out? Oh she hated being hot, she much rather liked the cool of the darkness. The girl's brow creased sharply, her eyes narrowing. She latched her fingernails into her left arm, shaking her head from side to side. She needed to get going. She needed to catch up before the others left.
Orianne very carefully placed her now-aching arm against the door, shoving out with her elbow. The dash of sun burned her eyes, causing her to fling her arm up higher with a cry of dismay. Oh this was awful, how she hated it...
Her feet stirred dust into the air, coating her sandals and the hem of her dress. She scowled down at it like it should burst into flame. Unfortunately, randomly conjouring fire out of the air was not a talent she possesed so her skirt continued to be dusty. She sighed, took a step forward, and then paused. More voices.
Curious, Orianne inched forward, clutching her bag to her chest. She'd had a few annoyances associated with it earlier that day. Now she could almost make out the words. How interesting.
*^* Yay! I've managed not to describe my character at all! *blech* I really am out of it...apologies...

Syn stood silent for a moment, trying to place the eavesdropper. "Ah. You must be that..." Syn paused for a moment. He knew the face, but he was too young to be the Ciost's favorite alchemist. "Actually, I have no idea," he admitted. "But I have no idea what you are talking about 'Betraying the King' and all that. What nonsence. You read too much." Syn turned around and walked away. Suddenly, a currier bumped into him. "What was that for! You need to watch where you are going!" Syn yelled at the poor man.
"I'm sorry, but I have been sent with a urgent message from Ciost!" The Currier exclaimed. "He says that there is a rebel army marching towards his gates and you have most of his army!"
Syn cursed under his breath. He thanked the currier and told him that he would be in the capital in under three days. He then proceeded into the mess tent and said to Mimiko, "There's an emergency. I am taking a few hundred men and leaving for the capital. I need you to hold down the fort here while I am gone. I should only be gone a few days, but who knows. If you need anything, just ask Field Commander Kafka. He should be able to help you with anything that might arise."
Syn then rode out and chose the Third Battalion (1250 strong) and left with them in tow.
~~~~~ Okay, this absence is meant to coenside with my real absence. Syn will be gone, for real. He should be back next Sunday or at the latest Monday.
Mimiko waved cheerily after Syn, then after a few minutes she realized she was waving at nothing and paused, looking at her fingers and tilting her head curiously.
So, she was in charge of the rest of the army for a week or so? Her eyes widened, but she felt strangely calm. She used to take care of a woman's child back in the village, so it would be the same, only she'd have to quadruple her effort or something.
She turned back to her pot and frowned. " I'm going to have to make a lot more soup..."
Deciding that she'd make one pot for herself (seeing as army men fed themselves most of the time, she read that in several books) and then decide what to do, she began to merrily slip on an apron and chop up vegetables. A few minutes later, a pot of creamy chipped beef was boiling, and she pulled out her bell from where she was standing near the fire.
" I just need to raise the intensity of the heat..." Mimiko muttered, swinging the bell in a cross pattern. A minute later, the fire turned black, signifying intense heat. " There, it should be ready in around five minutes!" She put her bell away and turned to a nearby military man. " Excuse me Mister Military Person Sir, could you please round up the main officials of the army for dinner? I need to talk to them about several things."
" Yes Commander Mimiko." The soldier bowed and walked off, and Mimiko giggled, smiling cheerily.
So polite! They don't even seem to mind my red eyes and hair... She turned and her eyes fell on a man with red hair and eyes that was wandering around, her own eyes widening. He looks like ME...
" Hey, Mr. red haired Mcperson!" Mimiko bounced over to him, waving the ladel around. " Wanna join me for soup? It's yummy!"
Dominiqu was walking cheerily down the dusty street of the town she had just arrived in. Walking wasn't exactly the right word, Dominiqu, known as Domi (among other things), never really walked, she tended to either be running, slinking, or swaggering briskly around with the air often associated with swashbucklers.
As she's going along the street, she passes the opening of an ally and is promptly bowled over by four large men who are rushing out of the opening with frightened looks on their faces.
Now I do wonder what that was about... Curious... A moment passed as she contemplated going to see what had scared the men so badly, but decided that picking herself back up first would be a better idea.
Standing back up and brushing herself off, she continued on her way, before noticing a girl with the look of a disgruntled person that was about to melt. Wordlessly she walked over to her and offered the girl her black bandanna for shade.
Orianne started with surprise, staring at the bandana a moment before accepting it. She unfolded it carefully, minding her bag. She then placed it precariously on top of her head, adjusting it silently with as much dignity as she could muster. It was only then she turned to Domi.
"Hello, and thank you." She forced a small smile to her face. "It's very hot, isn't it?"
Dominiqu nodded gravely before replying, "Aye, it's horrid isn't it? I just got here and already I wish I could drown myself in ice, along with half the town..." She flashed a quick grin at the girl, durring which she looked her over.
She seems a bit strange, that's good. She noticed the girl looked a bit thin, but not horribly so, and got an idea.
"Oye, chavi, would you mind going with me while I find some shade, and maybe a halker, I hear they have cold fruit sometimes, what do you say? I just hate walking around alone, even if I don't talk much."
Orianne considered this in silence, weighing the odds. Perhaps find something to eat with some strange person she didn't know, or leave and find some food herself. Her foot tapped absently in the dust, her eyes heavily-lidded.
"I need to catch up with my group." She decided at last, removing the bandana from her head and folding it carefully along the creases. She handed it back to Domi. "I'm terribly sorry, but my mother would be distraut if she were to find me missing."
She took a step back, inching her way for a open doorway.
"I hope you will be able to forgive me." She didn't wait for an answer, but rather turned and fled blindly into the building. She whirled and slammed the door behind her, leaning against it as she fought to control her breathing. She couldn't remember many of Aunt's talks, but one that had been carved into her mind said: 'don't go off with strangers'. And although she wasn't particularily sure why a stranger would mean her ill will, she wasn't thinking too clearly between the heat and the hunger.
And Aunt knew what she was talking about, right? Of course right.
"Well you can keep the bandanna-- Oh bloody fie. I guess I'm on my own then." She sighed and lifted her head, took a deep breath through her nose and sneezed softly. Ugh, human. She shuddered and headed toward the sound of the voices drifting from what she hoped was the marketplace.
She arrived at what appeared to be the town square in time to see a man on a white horse trotting away. How odd. Nice horse though, must be bleedin' expensive to keep though. She shook her head and headed toward a vendor selling what appeared to be hunks of meat skewered onto sticks of wood.
Wonder what kind of meat, cattle? Deer maybe? Oh it doesn't matter, I'm famished. She stopped short of the food cart while there were still people hiding her from view. She stood there for a moment, unblinking, waiting for her eyes feel like they were about to start watering.
"There that's good enough methinks..." She murmured to herself, and swept gracefully to the cart, taking her bandanna off and fanning herself as she arrived. Lowering her head, she looked at the food vendor from under her eyelashes, waiting for him to notice her.
Finishing a sale with his last costumer, he turned to Dominiqu and caught her eyeing him, before she quickly looked down, allowing a light blush to paint her cheeks.
"Milord," She muttered in a voice slightly higher then her normal one, and dropping a quick curtsy. As she did so, she managed to bump the lady behind her just enough to jog her into the fellow she was flirting with.
" 'ey now! Watch were yer goin' wench!" She cried, pushing Domi roughly, who, in turn, let out a small squeak and cringed against the cart. The meat-seller, glared at the older lady and growled at her.
"Now see here lady, you'd best apologize to the young one there or I'll 'ave the watch after you!" They glared at each other briefly before the lady's friend stepped up, half drawing a dagger.
"I won' 'ave you talkin' to a nice woman'n tha' way, un'erstan'?" He said, fiddling with his dagger hilt. All three broke out into a loud argument, drawing the attention of others, and bringing more people into the disagreement.
Domi went sauntering back down the street she'd first come down, happily munching on a piece of meat that she had just plucked off the stick she'd managed to grab, among the mounting confusion. She was walking past the alleyway where she'd been knocked over when she saw something red and shiny flash at the end of it.
Was that?... Her thoughts trailed off as she started padding quietly down the alleyway, eyes shining at the prospect of finding something shiny. Staying well hidden she saw a short man in a sparkling red cloak straighten up. She eyed his cloak happily. Now that is something I wouldn't mind having... But this is hardly the place, I'll wait 'til he leaves the ally and see where he goes from there.
Slinking back to where the narrow opening emptied into the street, she peered back down the ally, waiting, with a mischievous glint to her eyes.
"What an annoying little child." Zephyr placed added emphasis on the last word. If there was anything he hated more than that accursed King, it was children.
"And I would love some soup. Lead the way." He frowned slightly. Sure, he was accepting food from a strange person. And sure, that person just happened to be an annoying little child. But, he sensed something about this child that told him he could trust her. And he hadn't eaten in 2 days.
Mimiko beamed as she lead him back to the fire. She didn't seem to care about the "annoying little child remark", she actually thought it was a cute nickname.
None of the other army members had shown up yet, so she was glad to have some "get-to-know-you-time" with this man with crimson hair and eyes. She ladeled up a gigantic bowl of cream chipped beef and passed it to him with a cloth napkin and a spoon. " Careful, it's hot."
She helped herself to her own bowl and sat down next to him, grinning as she shoved a spoonful of creamed beef into her mouth. It dribbled onto her lips and she was quick to lick it off before talking again. " I'm Mimiko Takayana, and I'm right now the leader of this army, since Syn had to go away with some of the other guys for awhile. You must be new here, since I've never seen you before, and you have crimson hair and eyes, like me! Everyone just called me a demon child for it, though! Do you get those remarks too?"
Mimiko took another breath of air and another bite of soup before continuing, taking a french bread loaf she had gotten from the Matoyas market earlier and beaking it in half, handing the other half to the man. " Anyway, what's your name, do you have any magical powers? I'm a Fire Manipulator, and I hope to become a Fire Master someday! Do you have a position in the army, because if not, I can make you my second in command until Syn is gone, and when he comes back you can be third in command...or something..."
Arms. Getting. Tired. Teyric glared up at where his whip was coiled around the supporting pipe sticking out of the wall as he swayed gently back and forth at the end, ten feet above the ground. He had never been good at getting the whip to uncoil once it was tangled, and it got annoying sometimes. This was one of those times. Teyric swung back and forth listlessly, tugging with his full weight at the tangled whip end above him and making a mental note (for about the tenth time) to teach himself how to do this more efficiently next time. He gave one final tug, and suddenly the last bit of friction gave out and the bullwhip suddenly uncoiled rapidly from the pipe. With a yelp of suprise, Teyric plummeted the full ten feet and landed with a squelch in the mud of the alley. He swore under his breath and picked himself up, flinging the cloak back over his shoulder showily out of habit. He brushed himself off and then hurried to the end of the alley. There was no one hostile there, as far as he could tell, and so he proceeded hurriedly out onto the busy street. As he strode along the roughly cobbled, crowded street, he started whistling again, but as before his eyes swept the street, and occasionally he would turn as if he were perusing some merchant's wares and surreptitiously look behind him. He had been at this for several minutes, but he still couldn't get rid of a nagging feeling that he was being followed. Suddenly, he was struck by inspiration. He was stopping by a merchant's cart, but instead of turning around, he merely leaned on the counter and nonchalontly picked up a finely polished bronze platter and held it at eye heighth. In it's polished surface, he could see the reflection of the street behind him, and he knew immediately what the problem was as he caught a glimpse of a small girl with straight black hair stop quickly as he stopped, then duck behind a water barrel by a side alley. He thanked the merchant, put the plate down, and kept walking, faster now. His mind was racing. She was some little street mouse, obviously, by the state of what she was wearing, but why was she following him? She could just be interested in swiping his moneybag of course, or the innkeeper could have hired her. Either possibility was just as likely, and there was no way to know from looking. Abyss, he swore quietly. Normally he would have just kept walking and not thought anything of it, but now he had to know before he found a new place to stay. If the innkeeper found out the location of whatever new inn he found to perform in, he would be caught as neatly as a rat in a trap. He would have to catch the girl and question her. He sighed. "I hate doing stuff like this..."
Takira woke up, looked around. 'Where's my mommy' was all she could think of. She slipped her tiny legs out of the bed. Shivers went down her spine when her toes touched the cold floor. She crossed over to her doorway, and peeped out.
She could hear her father talking to some man in the entrance hall. She carefully walked by. 'Mommy's room is this way...' shaking, she placed her hand gently on the door, and pushed...
Empty, it was empty.
Takira shook her head. Acursed thoughts. That was ten years ago, get out of my head!
The sun was high now on the path to Matoyas, and she was getting hungry. Hmm...looking through her bag and found the bread Nanita packed for her. She bit off the end of it, mm... 'fluffy as usual Nanita' a smile spread across her sunkist face. Takira would miss Nanita so much, she was like a mother to her. She sat remembering two days before hand when she had left home...
'It's a nice breezy sunny day,' Takira thought as she stood on the house grounds for the last time. Nanita came outside to see her off before she left.
"Nanita!" Takira smiled and hugged her maid. "Takira, are you sure you want to go off?" Nanita sounded a little pankiced. "Yes, of course I do! You know what to do if my father asks, just tell him the truth..that I have left, and you have no idea where I'm going." She turned to leave. "Actually, I, f-found s-so-something." She was stuttering, Nanita only stuttered at the subject of my Mother. "What is it Nanita? What did you find..." Her heart was skipping beats, she could never find anything other than those two books. "I f-found this n-note, for you. But, I-I-I f-found it y-years ago, and Ponots s-said n-n-n-not to sh-sh-show you." She was on the verge of tears, Takira could tell. "It's j-just a note that says 'Matoyas', that's all" "Matoyas? As in the city Matoyas?" Nanita just noded. "Then that's where I'll head to! But, still tell father you don't know where I'm going, alright?" She smile again, she was now so anxious to go. "Alright, but take this, it's food. It should last a few days, as it's only bread and dried fruits." Nanita handed her the parcel. "Nanita, I'll miss you, when I come back, I'll be a horrid mess because you weren't there to take care of me!" Takira smiled one last time, then turned and left her fathers watchful servents at last...
Now, where was she? About 1/2 a mile away from Matoyas as the sunset came, and she was on a rock eating bread. 'Some start' she thought. Takira put the food away for the night. Let's see, where to sleep? Okay the giant tree it is!
When she reached height high enough to stay out of sight, she found a sturdy branch and lay down to sleep...
Upon awaking the next day, Takira heard voices...
"And I'd love some soup." She looked down and saw a lot of spikey hair and a girl with bright red hair...
She carefully let herself down a few branches, to get a closer look.
The spikey hair was crimson and belong to a man with crimson eyes. The other crimson head was that of a young teen girl, slightly younger than her it seemed.
She could smell the soup that the man spoke of, oh it smell so good...
CCCRRRAAACCCKKK!!!! The branch she was on fell down, and she landed with a loud THUD! Crap! She was surely going to be shot now.
"Umm... I uh..., I'm sorry, I spent the night in that tree, and It just sort of, uh... please don't kill me!"
so, we are ALL going to meet up eventually, right? That's the general idea. The point is that we are all the heroes of whatever story it is that we're writing cooperatively, and we will all be part of the overarching storyline that affects all of us. Wether this means we will actually group up into a party of about 7 people that travels around together remains to be seen, but we will all probably meet each other at some point.
Zephyr didn't even turn around when the girl came crashing down out of the tree. He simply pointed at her. Unfortunately, out of that finger came a very pointy, very metallic claw. It stopped an inch from her face.
"Who are you and why shouldn't I kill you?" He said, still sipping his soup. He glanced up from his soup to look Mimiko in the eyes. "And Mimiko, my name is Zephyr Torana, I'm a wind master, and no, I was not refered to as a Demon child, I recieved my hair and eye color from a failed experiment."
