DrunkenMonkey321: BWE serious RP Talk, yo
maskedcoconut has entered the room.
DrunkenMonkey321: Well, when it comes to a serious RP, we gotta ask ourselves one thing
DrunkenMonkey321: Is there going to be a general storyline that everyone follows
Skivvish: David is.
DrunkenMonkey321: Or will it all be willy-nilly up in the air like all the other RPs we've done?
Skivvish: Storyline I say.
maskedcoconut: Hnnnh. Storyline, I think.
DrunkenMonkey321: Would make it much more entertaining
maskedcoconut: Or... basic world building, then more open-ended. Skiv, remember the ones we've done before? Like that, mayhaps?
Skivvish: Like on GAIA?
DrunkenMonkey321: *listening*
maskedcoconut: Yeah, like those.
x kittoo has entered the room.
DrunkenMonkey321: Care to explain?
Skivvish: Basic world is good, leaves things open for random thingies.
maskedcoconut: It was basically, set up a world, then set up a smaller setting, like a city. In one we set it during some sort of festival. Mention maybe some prominent figures in that universe, set it in motion.
Skivvish: Yiss.
maskedcoconut: That looks vauge.
DrunkenMonkey321: Yup
Skivvish: Vauge can be good.
DrunkenMonkey321: vague*?
maskedcoconut: I would find an example, but they're all dead.
x kittoo: So is this... futuristic... pastistic...
maskedcoconut: Who knows, yet.
DrunkenMonkey321: Did it go by days?
DrunkenMonkey321: By Rounds I meant we'd spend a certain amount of time in one setting
DrunkenMonkey321: then move on to the next one
Skivvish: Meh.
x kittoo: That sounds confusing.
maskedcoconut: Nah, it wasn't very tightly controlled.
maskedcoconut: Aaaaany...way...
DrunkenMonkey321: moving along then
x kittoo: * Nods *
maskedcoconut: Um... ideas for... setting, perhaps?
DrunkenMonkey321: So the question is, would all the players be in the same place at once, or just in the general world itself?
Skivvish: I do like that setting we had in Gaia.
maskedcoconut: General world/location. They meet, eventually, usually.
x kittoo: So everyone is from a different part in the whole... World?
x kittoo: And we meet eventually?
maskedcoconut: Ner, it's more like... say, a city, or sunnink.
DrunkenMonkey321: Well, all of us that I know are writers, we could just mix together different pieces of our own worlds together that would fit
Skivvish: I think we should do a world where,
Skivvish: It's like... We can all be from wherever we want, whenever we want, real places though!! And we're brought together, into a world, where the land is patches of our times and places.
maskedcoconut: Hmm... might get a bit hard to organize and mod...
Skivvish: Like a patch of 13th century Turkey here, patch of 19th century Virginia there...
x kittoo: ...
Skivvish: Hmm, might...
DrunkenMonkey321: Not to mention a guy with a laser rifle would beat an old feudal era swordsman any day of the week
maskedcoconut: Yar. So, one general time period, then, for less confusingness?
x kittoo: Aye, aye.
DrunkenMonkey321: That's what I'd go fir
DrunkenMonkey321: for*
Skivvish: Fie.
Skivvish: Ach vell, that's my mind for you.
x kittoo: I like organization.
DrunkenMonkey321: It was a good idea, Skiv, but too many chances for irrealistic happenstances
DrunkenMonkey321: ...
x kittoo: You know... what... is the plot?
DrunkenMonkey321: Is happenstances even a word?
maskedcoconut: *muses* Soooer. What's a time period that doesn't get played much?
DrunkenMonkey321: Or did I just make that up?
maskedcoconut: You used it before, I think so, Oz.
x kittoo: Yes, it is a word if you say it is.
DrunkenMonkey321: *shrug*
x kittoo: Today.
maskedcoconut: (If we have to do feudal fantasy, we had damn well better have a new spin on it. Greck. Hiss.)
DrunkenMonkey321: I was always a fan of the early rennaisance, myself
maskedcoconut: The Rennaisance would be cooool.
MariaxTachibana: Ponelias
Skivvish: Meh, that's too late-time for my liking.
Skivvish: But I can cope.
Skivvish: Being in the SCA....
x kittoo: Victorian? *_*
maskedcoconut: Ponelias, snicker.
DrunkenMonkey321: Well, like I mentioned before
DrunkenMonkey321: Most of us have written our own type of world's in our personal writing
DrunkenMonkey321: We could mix and match some of the more unique concepts in each one and glue 'em all together
maskedcoconut: So... we could kinda... meld elements of
it?
maskedcoconut: Yeeeees. That might be neeeeat.
DrunkenMonkey321: Sure, throw up a thread
maskedcoconut: For this, werr?
DrunkenMonkey321: Possible locations/cities/whatever can be thrown up
maskedcoconut: *nods* Okay!
DrunkenMonkey321: Where people vote on whether they want to put it in or not
maskedcoconut: Then vetoed-voted on, or something?
DrunkenMonkey321: exactemente
maskedcoconut: Grah. I keep writing what you write.
maskedcoconut: Yersh.
DrunkenMonkey321: Our next question is plot
Skivvish: Plot = good.
DrunkenMonkey321: Do we want someone writing an over-all plot that everyone else follows and puts their own spin on?
DrunkenMonkey321: Well, to be honest, I'm fairly new to this whole RPing thing
maskedcoconut: Hmm. 'Could give you examples, Oz, but not of original things...
DrunkenMonkey321: but from what I have done, there's an RP session that is split into say 7-8 days or rounds if you want to call them that
DrunkenMonkey321: Now one guy, the mod, has an overall plot
maskedcoconut: Huh. How's it work, again?
maskedcoconut: *screams* LAGGAGE.
Skivvish: *hides*
DrunkenMonkey321: Where he tells them what the scenario is and moves the over-all plot along
Skivvish: DMing.
DrunkenMonkey321: just so
x kittoo: I've done that around a camp fire before.
maskedcoconut: Whoot.
maskedcoconut: If we all have input in teh world, though, who would mod? Am I thinking too far ahead?
DrunkenMonkey321: While everyone else plays their character and moves their character along the storyline in their own way
maskedcoconut: *nods* Makes sense.
Skivvish: Yeah...........
DrunkenMonkey321: Well, their's a difference between
over-all plot and location
DrunkenMonkey321: You could have two storylines of an emperor trying to conquer a nearby country
DrunkenMonkey321: One take place in a desert country, and one in a futuristic space setting
DrunkenMonkey321: and get two very different stories
maskedcoconut: Yar, true.
x kittoo: At frist we'd just be writing stories, then.
x kittoo: first*
DrunkenMonkey321: The next question is, how long should we aim to make our posts?
DrunkenMonkey321: I personally prefer a good 5 pages a post for my serious RPing
maskedcoconut: Hmm... no one-word one sentencers.
DrunkenMonkey321: Give something like a mini-chapter
maskedcoconut: *stares at* Jaysus.
DrunkenMonkey321: *shrug*
DrunkenMonkey321: I'm very prollific when I want to be
DrunkenMonkey321: You should read some of my rewrites
Skivvish: Woah now Oz.
maskedcoconut: D'you have a link to where you've RPed before?
DrunkenMonkey321: They can get quite lengthy at times
Skivvish: Slow down honey.
DrunkenMonkey321: I meant rewrites for my actual writing
DrunkenMonkey321: Not for RPing
DrunkenMonkey321: I'm not saying everyone would have to
DrunkenMonkey321: Five pages on word
maskedcoconut: ...yeah.
DrunkenMonkey321: heh heh
x kittoo: Why not two?
DrunkenMonkey321: Too much?
maskedcoconut: Isn't it rather hard not to godmod?
DrunkenMonkey321: Not at all
DrunkenMonkey321: You don't just write action
maskedcoconut: Example boards, please, then?
DrunkenMonkey321: Sure thing
Skivvish: Who writes the action then?
DrunkenMonkey321: shinraonline.com/board/showthread.php?t=131950&page=2&pp=15
maskedcoconut: Merci.
DrunkenMonkey321: Mine's the second post
DrunkenMonkey321: Diem Kaye
DrunkenMonkey321: You can write action and fight scenes
DrunkenMonkey321: Just don't have EVERYTHING be a fight scene
Skivvish: I hate writing fightscenes.
DrunkenMonkey321: They're alright
DrunkenMonkey321: But yeah, not necessarily that long, but my personal preference always has me writing a minimum of three pages
maskedcoconut: Cor... do we have to do sword and sorcery type deals? What about... something... else? *meebles, because she suxors at that sort of character
and style*
DrunkenMonkey321: We could have some that are swords and sorcery and some that aren't
DrunkenMonkey321: Character's I mean
DrunkenMonkey321: After all, someone who is a smooth talker and easy persuader can work wonders against a group of stupid swordsmen
maskedcoconut: Yar... so... any ideas for locations? I could scribble things down for y'all.
DrunkenMonkey321: Like I said, throw up a thread
maskedcoconut: 'kay.
DrunkenMonkey321: I'll check out some of my old notebooks for Aikea
DrunkenMonkey321: See if I have any cool city ideas or anything we can use
maskedcoconut: I'll check out... werr... the Little Kingdoms universe, maybe Greater Tessing.
maskedcoconut: Jette's on!
Skivvish: Tessing? Was that The Gaia one?
Skivvish: JETTE!!!
DrunkenMonkey321: Invite 'im!
Skivvish: Ah can't joo do eet.
maskedcoconut: Yes!
maskedcoconut: I did!
maskedcoconut: One minute, searching for notebooks.
Skivvish: Woot.
x kittoo: * Whimpers *
DrunkenMonkey321: What's Jette's IM name?
JetteSorcerer12 has entered the room.
Skivvish: *glomps Jette*
DrunkenMonkey321: There we go
DrunkenMonkey321: Ahoy hoy
Skivvish: MY DEAR! You came!
x kittoo: Hiiiiiiiii.
maskedcoconut: Yay, Jette!
JetteSorcerer12: Hello!
DrunkenMonkey321: We're just tossing around ideas for a serious RP
DrunkenMonkey321: Feel free to chime in whenever ya want
Skivvish: Woot.
x kittoo: Are we supressed?
x kittoo: Repressed?
x kittoo: In this RP.
DrunkenMonkey321: Hm?
Skivvish: SUPRESSED!!!!
Skivvish: Woot for rebellions!
maskedcoconut: *comes back with notebooks*
maskedcoconut: *screams* WHERE are all teh maps I've drawn over the years?
JetteSorcerer12: Sorry, I got hungry...
x kittoo: We need someone to be a bad guy that likes being a bad guy no matter what we are doing because... we have no conflict... without... * cough *
JetteSorcerer12: *Waves hand in the air* I'll do it.
DrunkenMonkey321: Bah, all villains need motivation
Skivvish: OH!
Skivvish: OH OH OH!
Skivvish: I vant to be!
Skivvish: Me and Jette can be!
DrunkenMonkey321: Which is why I think it'd be great if we were almost ALL villains
DrunkenMonkey321: We could split it into teams
maskedcoconut: Or at least of a villainous persuasion... or things.
DrunkenMonkey321: One side *shudder* good, the other
evil
DrunkenMonkey321: for lack of a better term
JetteSorcerer12: Or, we could reverse the roles.
maskedcoconut: Or... just... ruthless people who happen to want different things. *dislikes labels of good and evil...*
Skivvish: Oh DUDE!!!!!
JetteSorcerer12: I like TEO's idea.
Skivvish: We're a team tryingto take over the world.
MariaxTachibana: -stares-
Skivvish: But we end up saving it from eviler villians that
are tryign to destroy it!
JetteSorcerer12: No. We attempt to smite the other bad people.
JetteSorcerer12: I think we all should play bad people.
JetteSorcerer12: And start off by ourselves.
Skivvish: Yes!
Skivvish: And try and take over thw world? But save it?
JetteSorcerer12: And from there, we could branch off on our own, into our own groups.
JetteSorcerer12: And try to take over the world.
DrunkenMonkey321: Personally, I think we shouldn't limit
ourselves to being all good or all evil
DrunkenMonkey321: Allow people to make the exact character they want
DrunkenMonkey321: whether demon or saint
maskedcoconut: Yeees! Let's have gray shades! Or mercenaries!
JetteSorcerer12: That's a good idea.
DrunkenMonkey321: And then have the characters interact with one another the way THEY would
DrunkenMonkey321: Not how the writers wish them too
maskedcoconut: *nods* Very cool.
Skivvish: Duh.
JetteSorcerer12: I like it.
maskedcoconut: I'll start that thread. God.
JetteSorcerer12: Indeed.
DrunkenMonkey321: Ok, really the most important thing I can think of is how many people would join in?
maskedcoconut: Hmm, is there a limit, you mean?
DrunkenMonkey321: Would it just be the people here, or could we talk others into it as well?
Skivvish: OK wait what?
JetteSorcerer12: MA and Furball would, I know. And Aris might.
Skivvish: Invite.
DrunkenMonkey321: Because the more people the better
Skivvish: Don't do like....
maskedcoconut: Yar.
Skivvish: EVERYONE...
DrunkenMonkey321: Hey, Skiv, you think you could talk Ahrar and the rest of the SS crew into giving it a shot?
DrunkenMonkey321: that'd be fun
Skivvish: Because taht just gets silly.
Skivvish: Lax will.
Skivvish: Ahrar won't.
DrunkenMonkey321: :-(
maskedcoconut: Yes, Lax's good at RPing...
Skivvish: Naq might.
maskedcoconut: Would Sheep?
Skivvish: Lax owns.
Skivvish: Sheep wouldn't.
DrunkenMonkey321: Who's Lax again?
Skivvish: Oh sorry.
Skivvish: Ecky.
MariaxTachibana has left the room.
maskedcoconut: The guy in the Redwall RP. He's good at
villainy.
DrunkenMonkey321: gotcha
DrunkenMonkey321: I know him from FP.com
x kittoo: * sigh *
maskedcoconut: Would AP, Skiv?
DrunkenMonkey321: Basically I only know the ones you've mentioned
Skivvish: ap MIGHT.
JetteSorcerer12: All of our little group up her would.
JetteSorcerer12: *here
DrunkenMonkey321: So... for our serious RP, what's the next thing we should focus on figuring out? Plot? Character limits? Something I'm missin?
maskedcoconut: Hmm... character limits? Is this an alternate world, or a fantasy, or what?
Skivvish: What are limits?
JetteSorcerer12: I vote fantasy.
DrunkenMonkey321: Well, if we were writing your typical fantasy world, automatic machine guns would be banned
DrunkenMonkey321: That sort of stuff
Skivvish: Well duh.
DrunkenMonkey321: Stuff to keep all the characters somewhat balanced
maskedcoconut: Yar, what level of technology? Like, printing press, no muskets, style of thing?
DrunkenMonkey321: Just an example , Skivvy
Skivvish: Righto then.
DrunkenMonkey321: I personally like cannons and very primitive guns
maskedcoconut: That's fun. Guns that malfunction... a lot.
Skivvish: NU GUNS. *dies*
Skivvish: Oh ok.
Skivvish: That works.
DrunkenMonkey321: You know, the kind that were just as deadly to you as your enemy?
DrunkenMonkey321: Right, TEO's got the idea
maskedcoconut: YES.
JetteSorcerer12: I'm with TEO.
Skivvish: Woot woot.
maskedcoconut: *snickers* When were those around, then?
Skivvish: Late Renn?
DrunkenMonkey321: Hm... I know cannons were in the late Middle Ages
JetteSorcerer12: Guns were during the late middle/early industrial ages.
DrunkenMonkey321: I don't know about hand held guns however
DrunkenMonkey321: No, they came around much earlier than that, Jette
maskedcoconut: Pistols... prolly... er... 1600s? *random guess*
DrunkenMonkey321: Just a sec
DrunkenMonkey321: Let me find my weapon book
maskedcoconut: Let's check h2g2! It knows EVERYTHING.
JetteSorcerer12: *Googleing it*
DrunkenMonkey321: 16th century europe
Skivvish: Very good.
maskedcoconut: H2G2.com, guys. It knows eeeeverythiiiing.
Skivvish: I don't like RPing any later then 16th cen.
Skivvish: It does indeed.
DrunkenMonkey321: They did have hand cannons and stuff in Medieval Days
maskedcoconut: Well, I would have found that out anyway... eventually. *gleebles*
DrunkenMonkey321: But we don't want those, I suppose
maskedcoconut: Hmmm.
maskedcoconut: Soo... rudimentary firearms, at least?
Skivvish: Ones that die alot?
JetteSorcerer12: Indeed.
DrunkenMonkey321: Stuff like wheel lock pistols
maskedcoconut: Yeah, the sort of thing that haven't been standardized and take forever to load? *nods*
DrunkenMonkey321: Exactly
Skivvish: Heck yes.
JetteSorcerer12: I like it.
maskedcoconut: What else, then? Canons...
Skivvish: Sure.
Skivvish: Compass?
maskedcoconut: *thinks of same time period* Movable type printing press, astrolabe?
maskedcoconut: Yar. Sure.
DrunkenMonkey321: haha, apparently they had something called a 'rocket spear' in the sixteen hundreds
DrunkenMonkey321: Man, I love this book
maskedcoconut: Scaaary.
Skivvish: Oh, and if we're doing 16th cen', the first person who says "zipper" in the RP, dies.
maskedcoconut: YES.
DrunkenMonkey321: What if he's a scientist?
DrunkenMonkey321: He could have invented a zipper
Skivvish: *levels knife at Oz*
DrunkenMonkey321: ok, ok
Skivvish: Wanna try it punk?
DrunkenMonkey321: Sheesh
maskedcoconut: It wasn't called zipper for years after the invention, anyway...
DrunkenMonkey321: Ok, so we have a time period downj
DrunkenMonkey321: down*
DrunkenMonkey321: Now the question is
DrunkenMonkey321: Magic.
DrunkenMonkey321: Yes or no?
maskedcoconut: *nods* What about limits on magic, if we have it?
maskedcoconut: Wow.
DrunkenMonkey321: haha
Skivvish: What?
JetteSorcerer12: YES! We most definately must have magic!
maskedcoconut: Okay, what sort? (Don't say elemental, don't say elemental...)
JetteSorcerer12: Elemental!
Skivvish: *hands TEO the knife*
JetteSorcerer12: Sorry, not really...
maskedcoconut: *STABS JETTE*
DrunkenMonkey321: I would like magic, however, I hate in how so much fantasy, a weak little wizard apprentice can take down a swordsman who's been learning how to fight his whole life
Skivvish: Hahahah.
maskedcoconut: Yeeeah, me tooo.
JetteSorcerer12: None of that.
DrunkenMonkey321: I say if we have magic, we just can't have it be overpowered
JetteSorcerer12: What about alchemy?
Skivvish: Alchemy?
maskedcoconut: Alchemy's neeat. How would it work?
x kittoo: What if we have like... Macbeth type... magic... with Seers and such like... Pagan magic... well, then, that'd be more... Beowulf which is... gah. I'm to brain dead.
x kittoo: o*
DrunkenMonkey321: I'm all for alchemy. Unless of course we're talking about FMA alchemy, which I don't know too much about, but from what I've seen, haven't been too impressed
Skivvish: I likes herblaw type potiony stuffs.
Skivvish: *clings to her spice rack*
DrunkenMonkey321: same here
JetteSorcerer12: Indeed.
maskedcoconut: So, kinda... magic that's more like basic science with mysticism?
Skivvish: Yiss...
DrunkenMonkey321: Well, I don't know
DrunkenMonkey321: Cause an actual magical wizard could be a lot of fun as long as it wasn't god-moded
DrunkenMonkey321: Plus it allows us to tweak a few rules here and there
Skivvish: OK.
maskedcoconut: It would, but it might get abused...
x kittoo: You know... it's sort of an automatic thing for them to be god-moded.
DrunkenMonkey321: That's why I'm not whole-heartedly suggesting it
x kittoo: Because.... they... are... maHjikal.
DrunkenMonkey321: Not necessarily, kittoo
DrunkenMonkey321: It all depends on the writer
Skivvish: *Waves hand excitedly*
DrunkenMonkey321: skiv?
maskedcoconut: Hmm. So, how would it be limited?
maskedcoconut: Skiv?
x kittoo: Of course, and these people....
x kittoo: I've just had bad experiences, let's say that.
Skivvish: Can I be the "Period Nazi?" I'd like... Flog people who weren't in period with things. Pleeeeeease? *kihee eyes*
maskedcoconut: Yay for biffing in OOC.
x kittoo: LOL.
Skivvish: Wait, what?
DrunkenMonkey321: Hmm... I forget the book, but there was this one story I remember reading where you would have to draw your own blood to be able to cast magic
maskedcoconut: Creeepy.
DrunkenMonkey321: The bigger the spell the more of your own blood you'd have to spill
maskedcoconut: Could we make it more elaborate, harder to use?
Skivvish: I like that.
maskedcoconut: Oh! I can use my fantasy writing book! *beams*
Skivvish: The blood thing.
DrunkenMonkey321: Of course, just a basic foundation we might want to build off of
Skivvish: So it's like... It tires you.
DrunkenMonkey321: the blood thing would work to a certain extent with fight scenes as well
DrunkenMonkey321: Since if someone else is making you bleed, you could still use that to fuel your magic
maskedcoconut: Sounds like... Inuyasha, vaugely.
DrunkenMonkey321: Oh?
JetteSorcerer12: I think that instead of using blood, we have to draw elaborate crest-type things...
DrunkenMonkey321: Never seen it
maskedcoconut: Cor, can't spell that. >.<
DrunkenMonkey321: Elaborate crest things, while cool, are kind of overdone though
maskedcoconut: Hmmm.
DrunkenMonkey321: And makes it very hard for a character to fit a spell into a situation without sounding like Batman from the old sixties show
DrunkenMonkey321: "Thank God I remembered my shark repellant!"
JetteSorcerer12: Or possibly use relic-jewelry-item type things that can be destroyed.
Skivvish: Ohhh yiss!
Skivvish: Relic-jewelry!!
Skivvish: That like...
maskedcoconut: Meh, not a big fan.
Skivvish: Turns to ashes after five uses or whatever.
Skivvish: Or (insert number)
DrunkenMonkey321: Too mathematical
Skivvish: *sulks*
Skivvish: Fine.
JetteSorcerer12: Not nessisarily. It could simply be destroyed by a well placed blow.
maskedcoconut: Kangerooo spoooon.
x kittoo: Magic is complicated.
maskedcoconut: It should be.
x kittoo: And someone is going to get pissed off.
JetteSorcerer12: Hmm.
DrunkenMonkey321: I don't think so
DrunkenMonkey321: Everyone I've met on BWE knows not to god-mode
x kittoo: No, I'm just saying... that... what someone said earlier about the weak apprentice person, kicking the knights ass...
maskedcoconut: Hnh. I s'pose...
DrunkenMonkey321: We could have something a bit like the Force
Skivvish: Woot!
DrunkenMonkey321: Where it all depends on a person's sense of will
maskedcoconut: There's an article on believable magic systems on hollylisle.com, see if I can dredge it up.
DrunkenMonkey321: For example. and I know this will make me sound like a huge nerd
Skivvish: *is a SW geek*
x kittoo: No worries, we're all in the same boat.
DrunkenMonkey321: But even though Luke was a kickass "wizard" he still couldn't use it on Jabba the Hut
DrunkenMonkey321: Hutt*
Skivvish: Yeah, that's true.
x kittoo: That can still be abused.
x kittoo: If someone has a 'perfect' character.
Skivvish: No one will.
maskedcoconut: Hnnnh. It seems kind of... easy. I know, it's not easy in Star Wars, but it should require the same or more training that being a master at some weapon
Skivvish: Blood too.
JetteSorcerer12: We could use PARTIAL elementals, along with forceish type things.
DrunkenMonkey321: But I really doubt that anyone on BWE would make a 'perfect' character
x kittoo: Yes, blood.
DrunkenMonkey321: Sepearate divsions, perhaps?
DrunkenMonkey321: Illsionary like Force type stuff, Elemental like Fireball stuff
JetteSorcerer12: Indeed.
maskedcoconut: Here, good article, good points: hollylisle.com/fm/Articles/rules-for-better-fantasy.html
JetteSorcerer12: Indeed.
DrunkenMonkey321: Good article, I disagree with a villains magic having to have good fall-out somewhere though
maskedcoconut: *hearts Hollie Lisle to no end*
DrunkenMonkey321: After all, I have yet to see the atomic
bomb that gave good results somewhere
maskedcoconut: Lemmee see, which point was it?
DrunkenMonkey321: I agree with everything else in point 2A just not that
maskedcoconut: Hmmm. All I can think of is that the atomic bomb made... grass grow...
maskedcoconut: *recalls Hiroshima and shrugs*
JetteSorcerer12: Indeed.
x kittoo: Don't agree with it either...
x kittoo: We can't be everywhere.
maskedcoconut: Ner... or the ripples would be so small the villain guy wouldn't see 'em, so werr.
DrunkenMonkey321: It can have repercussions, in fact it SHOULD have repercussions, it's only the positive repercussions I'm arguing against
maskedcoconut: Yes... maybe 'repercussions that were not intended' would fit better?
maskedcoconut: Or, 'repercussions contray to intention' or sunnink?
Skivvish: Yiss.
JetteSorcerer12: Ok, how about everyone gets their powers, maic or otherwise, from some form of tangible object...
JetteSorcerer12: And after so long, the object dies, so to speak...
DrunkenMonkey321: Well, the problem with getting your power from a tangible obhect
JetteSorcerer12: And they have to find another one.
DrunkenMonkey321: Is that a person's power is more reliant on that object than their own personal skill
JetteSorcerer12: The more powerful the spell you use, the more energy it drains..
maskedcoconut: Yes. Seconded.
x kittoo: Is this object to be something that was living...
Skivvish: Yeah true.
JetteSorcerer12: Not nessisarily.
JetteSorcerer12: About the living objects.
x kittoo: WELL, if you have magic you should have ghosts or something somewhere.
JetteSorcerer12: It could be. Or it could be a mineral that multiplies said person's spiritual capasity.
Skivvish: Oooh..
DrunkenMonkey321: Like the stones in the 'Elven Bane'?
JetteSorcerer12: Or a simple object inhabited by a spirit.
JetteSorcerer12: and yes.
DrunkenMonkey321: Well, who's to say there is only one form of magic?
x kittoo: We will never get to RP.
x kittoo: If someone does say that.
Skivvish: Heheheh.
Skivvish: Wait what?
JetteSorcerer12: There isn't. In the character thread, we could chose from two types of magic.
maskedcoconut: Prolly not tonight. Sorry, Jess, we're all picky writers...
DrunkenMonkey321: Well, different cultures have their own spin on everything
DrunkenMonkey321: Who's to say magic is any different?
JetteSorcerer12: And if we choose to use elements, we can only chose ONE.
Skivvish: One?
maskedcoconut: Hmm. But wouldn't the basis all be the same, somewhere?
DrunkenMonkey321: Gaara of the Desert, baby
maskedcoconut: Werr? *meeps*
DrunkenMonkey321: Is that what you're thinking, Jette?
JetteSorcerer12: Indeed.
x kittoo: * shrugs * Who is going to be magical?
Skivvish: Jette is.
JetteSorcerer12: I will. I know MA will be as well.
JetteSorcerer12: Aris might.
maskedcoconut has entered the room.
DrunkenMonkey321: Well, when it comes to a serious RP, we gotta ask ourselves one thing
DrunkenMonkey321: Is there going to be a general storyline that everyone follows
Skivvish: David is.
DrunkenMonkey321: Or will it all be willy-nilly up in the air like all the other RPs we've done?
Skivvish: Storyline I say.
maskedcoconut: Hnnnh. Storyline, I think.
DrunkenMonkey321: Would make it much more entertaining
maskedcoconut: Or... basic world building, then more open-ended. Skiv, remember the ones we've done before? Like that, mayhaps?
Skivvish: Like on GAIA?
DrunkenMonkey321: *listening*
maskedcoconut: Yeah, like those.
x kittoo has entered the room.
DrunkenMonkey321: Care to explain?
Skivvish: Basic world is good, leaves things open for random thingies.
maskedcoconut: It was basically, set up a world, then set up a smaller setting, like a city. In one we set it during some sort of festival. Mention maybe some prominent figures in that universe, set it in motion.
Skivvish: Yiss.
maskedcoconut: That looks vauge.
DrunkenMonkey321: Yup
Skivvish: Vauge can be good.
DrunkenMonkey321: vague*?
maskedcoconut: I would find an example, but they're all dead.
x kittoo: So is this... futuristic... pastistic...
maskedcoconut: Who knows, yet.
DrunkenMonkey321: Did it go by days?
DrunkenMonkey321: By Rounds I meant we'd spend a certain amount of time in one setting
DrunkenMonkey321: then move on to the next one
Skivvish: Meh.
x kittoo: That sounds confusing.
maskedcoconut: Nah, it wasn't very tightly controlled.
maskedcoconut: Aaaaany...way...
DrunkenMonkey321: moving along then
x kittoo: * Nods *
maskedcoconut: Um... ideas for... setting, perhaps?
DrunkenMonkey321: So the question is, would all the players be in the same place at once, or just in the general world itself?
Skivvish: I do like that setting we had in Gaia.
maskedcoconut: General world/location. They meet, eventually, usually.
x kittoo: So everyone is from a different part in the whole... World?
x kittoo: And we meet eventually?
maskedcoconut: Ner, it's more like... say, a city, or sunnink.
DrunkenMonkey321: Well, all of us that I know are writers, we could just mix together different pieces of our own worlds together that would fit
Skivvish: I think we should do a world where,
Skivvish: It's like... We can all be from wherever we want, whenever we want, real places though!! And we're brought together, into a world, where the land is patches of our times and places.
maskedcoconut: Hmm... might get a bit hard to organize and mod...
Skivvish: Like a patch of 13th century Turkey here, patch of 19th century Virginia there...
x kittoo: ...
Skivvish: Hmm, might...
DrunkenMonkey321: Not to mention a guy with a laser rifle would beat an old feudal era swordsman any day of the week
maskedcoconut: Yar. So, one general time period, then, for less confusingness?
x kittoo: Aye, aye.
DrunkenMonkey321: That's what I'd go fir
DrunkenMonkey321: for*
Skivvish: Fie.
Skivvish: Ach vell, that's my mind for you.
x kittoo: I like organization.
DrunkenMonkey321: It was a good idea, Skiv, but too many chances for irrealistic happenstances
DrunkenMonkey321: ...
x kittoo: You know... what... is the plot?
DrunkenMonkey321: Is happenstances even a word?
maskedcoconut: *muses* Soooer. What's a time period that doesn't get played much?
DrunkenMonkey321: Or did I just make that up?
maskedcoconut: You used it before, I think so, Oz.
x kittoo: Yes, it is a word if you say it is.
DrunkenMonkey321: *shrug*
x kittoo: Today.
maskedcoconut: (If we have to do feudal fantasy, we had damn well better have a new spin on it. Greck. Hiss.)
DrunkenMonkey321: I was always a fan of the early rennaisance, myself
maskedcoconut: The Rennaisance would be cooool.
MariaxTachibana: Ponelias
Skivvish: Meh, that's too late-time for my liking.
Skivvish: But I can cope.
Skivvish: Being in the SCA....
x kittoo: Victorian? *_*
maskedcoconut: Ponelias, snicker.
DrunkenMonkey321: Well, like I mentioned before
DrunkenMonkey321: Most of us have written our own type of world's in our personal writing
DrunkenMonkey321: We could mix and match some of the more unique concepts in each one and glue 'em all together
maskedcoconut: So... we could kinda... meld elements of
it?
maskedcoconut: Yeeeees. That might be neeeeat.
DrunkenMonkey321: Sure, throw up a thread
maskedcoconut: For this, werr?
DrunkenMonkey321: Possible locations/cities/whatever can be thrown up
maskedcoconut: *nods* Okay!
DrunkenMonkey321: Where people vote on whether they want to put it in or not
maskedcoconut: Then vetoed-voted on, or something?
DrunkenMonkey321: exactemente
maskedcoconut: Grah. I keep writing what you write.
maskedcoconut: Yersh.
DrunkenMonkey321: Our next question is plot
Skivvish: Plot = good.
DrunkenMonkey321: Do we want someone writing an over-all plot that everyone else follows and puts their own spin on?
DrunkenMonkey321: Well, to be honest, I'm fairly new to this whole RPing thing
maskedcoconut: Hmm. 'Could give you examples, Oz, but not of original things...
DrunkenMonkey321: but from what I have done, there's an RP session that is split into say 7-8 days or rounds if you want to call them that
DrunkenMonkey321: Now one guy, the mod, has an overall plot
maskedcoconut: Huh. How's it work, again?
maskedcoconut: *screams* LAGGAGE.
Skivvish: *hides*
DrunkenMonkey321: Where he tells them what the scenario is and moves the over-all plot along
Skivvish: DMing.
DrunkenMonkey321: just so
x kittoo: I've done that around a camp fire before.
maskedcoconut: Whoot.
maskedcoconut: If we all have input in teh world, though, who would mod? Am I thinking too far ahead?
DrunkenMonkey321: While everyone else plays their character and moves their character along the storyline in their own way
maskedcoconut: *nods* Makes sense.
Skivvish: Yeah...........
DrunkenMonkey321: Well, their's a difference between
over-all plot and location
DrunkenMonkey321: You could have two storylines of an emperor trying to conquer a nearby country
DrunkenMonkey321: One take place in a desert country, and one in a futuristic space setting
DrunkenMonkey321: and get two very different stories
maskedcoconut: Yar, true.
x kittoo: At frist we'd just be writing stories, then.
x kittoo: first*
DrunkenMonkey321: The next question is, how long should we aim to make our posts?
DrunkenMonkey321: I personally prefer a good 5 pages a post for my serious RPing
maskedcoconut: Hmm... no one-word one sentencers.
DrunkenMonkey321: Give something like a mini-chapter
maskedcoconut: *stares at* Jaysus.
DrunkenMonkey321: *shrug*
DrunkenMonkey321: I'm very prollific when I want to be
DrunkenMonkey321: You should read some of my rewrites
Skivvish: Woah now Oz.
maskedcoconut: D'you have a link to where you've RPed before?
DrunkenMonkey321: They can get quite lengthy at times
Skivvish: Slow down honey.
DrunkenMonkey321: I meant rewrites for my actual writing
DrunkenMonkey321: Not for RPing
DrunkenMonkey321: I'm not saying everyone would have to
DrunkenMonkey321: Five pages on word
maskedcoconut: ...yeah.
DrunkenMonkey321: heh heh
x kittoo: Why not two?
DrunkenMonkey321: Too much?
maskedcoconut: Isn't it rather hard not to godmod?
DrunkenMonkey321: Not at all
DrunkenMonkey321: You don't just write action
maskedcoconut: Example boards, please, then?
DrunkenMonkey321: Sure thing
Skivvish: Who writes the action then?
DrunkenMonkey321: shinraonline.com/board/showthread.php?t=131950&page=2&pp=15
maskedcoconut: Merci.
DrunkenMonkey321: Mine's the second post
DrunkenMonkey321: Diem Kaye
DrunkenMonkey321: You can write action and fight scenes
DrunkenMonkey321: Just don't have EVERYTHING be a fight scene
Skivvish: I hate writing fightscenes.
DrunkenMonkey321: They're alright
DrunkenMonkey321: But yeah, not necessarily that long, but my personal preference always has me writing a minimum of three pages
maskedcoconut: Cor... do we have to do sword and sorcery type deals? What about... something... else? *meebles, because she suxors at that sort of character
and style*
DrunkenMonkey321: We could have some that are swords and sorcery and some that aren't
DrunkenMonkey321: Character's I mean
DrunkenMonkey321: After all, someone who is a smooth talker and easy persuader can work wonders against a group of stupid swordsmen
maskedcoconut: Yar... so... any ideas for locations? I could scribble things down for y'all.
DrunkenMonkey321: Like I said, throw up a thread
maskedcoconut: 'kay.
DrunkenMonkey321: I'll check out some of my old notebooks for Aikea
DrunkenMonkey321: See if I have any cool city ideas or anything we can use
maskedcoconut: I'll check out... werr... the Little Kingdoms universe, maybe Greater Tessing.
maskedcoconut: Jette's on!
Skivvish: Tessing? Was that The Gaia one?
Skivvish: JETTE!!!
DrunkenMonkey321: Invite 'im!
Skivvish: Ah can't joo do eet.
maskedcoconut: Yes!
maskedcoconut: I did!
maskedcoconut: One minute, searching for notebooks.
Skivvish: Woot.
x kittoo: * Whimpers *
DrunkenMonkey321: What's Jette's IM name?
JetteSorcerer12 has entered the room.
Skivvish: *glomps Jette*
DrunkenMonkey321: There we go
DrunkenMonkey321: Ahoy hoy
Skivvish: MY DEAR! You came!
x kittoo: Hiiiiiiiii.
maskedcoconut: Yay, Jette!
JetteSorcerer12: Hello!
DrunkenMonkey321: We're just tossing around ideas for a serious RP
DrunkenMonkey321: Feel free to chime in whenever ya want
Skivvish: Woot.
x kittoo: Are we supressed?
x kittoo: Repressed?
x kittoo: In this RP.
DrunkenMonkey321: Hm?
Skivvish: SUPRESSED!!!!
Skivvish: Woot for rebellions!
maskedcoconut: *comes back with notebooks*
maskedcoconut: *screams* WHERE are all teh maps I've drawn over the years?
JetteSorcerer12: Sorry, I got hungry...
x kittoo: We need someone to be a bad guy that likes being a bad guy no matter what we are doing because... we have no conflict... without... * cough *
JetteSorcerer12: *Waves hand in the air* I'll do it.
DrunkenMonkey321: Bah, all villains need motivation
Skivvish: OH!
Skivvish: OH OH OH!
Skivvish: I vant to be!
Skivvish: Me and Jette can be!
DrunkenMonkey321: Which is why I think it'd be great if we were almost ALL villains
DrunkenMonkey321: We could split it into teams
maskedcoconut: Or at least of a villainous persuasion... or things.
DrunkenMonkey321: One side *shudder* good, the other
evil
DrunkenMonkey321: for lack of a better term
JetteSorcerer12: Or, we could reverse the roles.
maskedcoconut: Or... just... ruthless people who happen to want different things. *dislikes labels of good and evil...*
Skivvish: Oh DUDE!!!!!
JetteSorcerer12: I like TEO's idea.
Skivvish: We're a team tryingto take over the world.
MariaxTachibana: -stares-
Skivvish: But we end up saving it from eviler villians that
are tryign to destroy it!
JetteSorcerer12: No. We attempt to smite the other bad people.
JetteSorcerer12: I think we all should play bad people.
JetteSorcerer12: And start off by ourselves.
Skivvish: Yes!
Skivvish: And try and take over thw world? But save it?
JetteSorcerer12: And from there, we could branch off on our own, into our own groups.
JetteSorcerer12: And try to take over the world.
DrunkenMonkey321: Personally, I think we shouldn't limit
ourselves to being all good or all evil
DrunkenMonkey321: Allow people to make the exact character they want
DrunkenMonkey321: whether demon or saint
maskedcoconut: Yeees! Let's have gray shades! Or mercenaries!
JetteSorcerer12: That's a good idea.
DrunkenMonkey321: And then have the characters interact with one another the way THEY would
DrunkenMonkey321: Not how the writers wish them too
maskedcoconut: *nods* Very cool.
Skivvish: Duh.
JetteSorcerer12: I like it.
maskedcoconut: I'll start that thread. God.
JetteSorcerer12: Indeed.
DrunkenMonkey321: Ok, really the most important thing I can think of is how many people would join in?
maskedcoconut: Hmm, is there a limit, you mean?
DrunkenMonkey321: Would it just be the people here, or could we talk others into it as well?
Skivvish: OK wait what?
JetteSorcerer12: MA and Furball would, I know. And Aris might.
Skivvish: Invite.
DrunkenMonkey321: Because the more people the better
Skivvish: Don't do like....
maskedcoconut: Yar.
Skivvish: EVERYONE...
DrunkenMonkey321: Hey, Skiv, you think you could talk Ahrar and the rest of the SS crew into giving it a shot?
DrunkenMonkey321: that'd be fun
Skivvish: Because taht just gets silly.
Skivvish: Lax will.
Skivvish: Ahrar won't.
DrunkenMonkey321: :-(
maskedcoconut: Yes, Lax's good at RPing...
Skivvish: Naq might.
maskedcoconut: Would Sheep?
Skivvish: Lax owns.
Skivvish: Sheep wouldn't.
DrunkenMonkey321: Who's Lax again?
Skivvish: Oh sorry.
Skivvish: Ecky.
MariaxTachibana has left the room.
maskedcoconut: The guy in the Redwall RP. He's good at
villainy.
DrunkenMonkey321: gotcha
DrunkenMonkey321: I know him from FP.com
x kittoo: * sigh *
maskedcoconut: Would AP, Skiv?
DrunkenMonkey321: Basically I only know the ones you've mentioned
Skivvish: ap MIGHT.
JetteSorcerer12: All of our little group up her would.
JetteSorcerer12: *here
DrunkenMonkey321: So... for our serious RP, what's the next thing we should focus on figuring out? Plot? Character limits? Something I'm missin?
maskedcoconut: Hmm... character limits? Is this an alternate world, or a fantasy, or what?
Skivvish: What are limits?
JetteSorcerer12: I vote fantasy.
DrunkenMonkey321: Well, if we were writing your typical fantasy world, automatic machine guns would be banned
DrunkenMonkey321: That sort of stuff
Skivvish: Well duh.
DrunkenMonkey321: Stuff to keep all the characters somewhat balanced
maskedcoconut: Yar, what level of technology? Like, printing press, no muskets, style of thing?
DrunkenMonkey321: Just an example , Skivvy
Skivvish: Righto then.
DrunkenMonkey321: I personally like cannons and very primitive guns
maskedcoconut: That's fun. Guns that malfunction... a lot.
Skivvish: NU GUNS. *dies*
Skivvish: Oh ok.
Skivvish: That works.
DrunkenMonkey321: You know, the kind that were just as deadly to you as your enemy?
DrunkenMonkey321: Right, TEO's got the idea
maskedcoconut: YES.
JetteSorcerer12: I'm with TEO.
Skivvish: Woot woot.
maskedcoconut: *snickers* When were those around, then?
Skivvish: Late Renn?
DrunkenMonkey321: Hm... I know cannons were in the late Middle Ages
JetteSorcerer12: Guns were during the late middle/early industrial ages.
DrunkenMonkey321: I don't know about hand held guns however
DrunkenMonkey321: No, they came around much earlier than that, Jette
maskedcoconut: Pistols... prolly... er... 1600s? *random guess*
DrunkenMonkey321: Just a sec
DrunkenMonkey321: Let me find my weapon book
maskedcoconut: Let's check h2g2! It knows EVERYTHING.
JetteSorcerer12: *Googleing it*
DrunkenMonkey321: 16th century europe
Skivvish: Very good.
maskedcoconut: H2G2.com, guys. It knows eeeeverythiiiing.
Skivvish: I don't like RPing any later then 16th cen.
Skivvish: It does indeed.
DrunkenMonkey321: They did have hand cannons and stuff in Medieval Days
maskedcoconut: Well, I would have found that out anyway... eventually. *gleebles*
DrunkenMonkey321: But we don't want those, I suppose
maskedcoconut: Hmmm.
maskedcoconut: Soo... rudimentary firearms, at least?
Skivvish: Ones that die alot?
JetteSorcerer12: Indeed.
DrunkenMonkey321: Stuff like wheel lock pistols
maskedcoconut: Yeah, the sort of thing that haven't been standardized and take forever to load? *nods*
DrunkenMonkey321: Exactly
Skivvish: Heck yes.
JetteSorcerer12: I like it.
maskedcoconut: What else, then? Canons...
Skivvish: Sure.
Skivvish: Compass?
maskedcoconut: *thinks of same time period* Movable type printing press, astrolabe?
maskedcoconut: Yar. Sure.
DrunkenMonkey321: haha, apparently they had something called a 'rocket spear' in the sixteen hundreds
DrunkenMonkey321: Man, I love this book
maskedcoconut: Scaaary.
Skivvish: Oh, and if we're doing 16th cen', the first person who says "zipper" in the RP, dies.
maskedcoconut: YES.
DrunkenMonkey321: What if he's a scientist?
DrunkenMonkey321: He could have invented a zipper
Skivvish: *levels knife at Oz*
DrunkenMonkey321: ok, ok
Skivvish: Wanna try it punk?
DrunkenMonkey321: Sheesh
maskedcoconut: It wasn't called zipper for years after the invention, anyway...
DrunkenMonkey321: Ok, so we have a time period downj
DrunkenMonkey321: down*
DrunkenMonkey321: Now the question is
DrunkenMonkey321: Magic.
DrunkenMonkey321: Yes or no?
maskedcoconut: *nods* What about limits on magic, if we have it?
maskedcoconut: Wow.
DrunkenMonkey321: haha
Skivvish: What?
JetteSorcerer12: YES! We most definately must have magic!
maskedcoconut: Okay, what sort? (Don't say elemental, don't say elemental...)
JetteSorcerer12: Elemental!
Skivvish: *hands TEO the knife*
JetteSorcerer12: Sorry, not really...
maskedcoconut: *STABS JETTE*
DrunkenMonkey321: I would like magic, however, I hate in how so much fantasy, a weak little wizard apprentice can take down a swordsman who's been learning how to fight his whole life
Skivvish: Hahahah.
maskedcoconut: Yeeeah, me tooo.
JetteSorcerer12: None of that.
DrunkenMonkey321: I say if we have magic, we just can't have it be overpowered
JetteSorcerer12: What about alchemy?
Skivvish: Alchemy?
maskedcoconut: Alchemy's neeat. How would it work?
x kittoo: What if we have like... Macbeth type... magic... with Seers and such like... Pagan magic... well, then, that'd be more... Beowulf which is... gah. I'm to brain dead.
x kittoo: o*
DrunkenMonkey321: I'm all for alchemy. Unless of course we're talking about FMA alchemy, which I don't know too much about, but from what I've seen, haven't been too impressed
Skivvish: I likes herblaw type potiony stuffs.
Skivvish: *clings to her spice rack*
DrunkenMonkey321: same here
JetteSorcerer12: Indeed.
maskedcoconut: So, kinda... magic that's more like basic science with mysticism?
Skivvish: Yiss...
DrunkenMonkey321: Well, I don't know
DrunkenMonkey321: Cause an actual magical wizard could be a lot of fun as long as it wasn't god-moded
DrunkenMonkey321: Plus it allows us to tweak a few rules here and there
Skivvish: OK.
maskedcoconut: It would, but it might get abused...
x kittoo: You know... it's sort of an automatic thing for them to be god-moded.
DrunkenMonkey321: That's why I'm not whole-heartedly suggesting it
x kittoo: Because.... they... are... maHjikal.
DrunkenMonkey321: Not necessarily, kittoo
DrunkenMonkey321: It all depends on the writer
Skivvish: *Waves hand excitedly*
DrunkenMonkey321: skiv?
maskedcoconut: Hmm. So, how would it be limited?
maskedcoconut: Skiv?
x kittoo: Of course, and these people....
x kittoo: I've just had bad experiences, let's say that.
Skivvish: Can I be the "Period Nazi?" I'd like... Flog people who weren't in period with things. Pleeeeeease? *kihee eyes*
maskedcoconut: Yay for biffing in OOC.
x kittoo: LOL.
Skivvish: Wait, what?
DrunkenMonkey321: Hmm... I forget the book, but there was this one story I remember reading where you would have to draw your own blood to be able to cast magic
maskedcoconut: Creeepy.
DrunkenMonkey321: The bigger the spell the more of your own blood you'd have to spill
maskedcoconut: Could we make it more elaborate, harder to use?
Skivvish: I like that.
maskedcoconut: Oh! I can use my fantasy writing book! *beams*
Skivvish: The blood thing.
DrunkenMonkey321: Of course, just a basic foundation we might want to build off of
Skivvish: So it's like... It tires you.
DrunkenMonkey321: the blood thing would work to a certain extent with fight scenes as well
DrunkenMonkey321: Since if someone else is making you bleed, you could still use that to fuel your magic
maskedcoconut: Sounds like... Inuyasha, vaugely.
DrunkenMonkey321: Oh?
JetteSorcerer12: I think that instead of using blood, we have to draw elaborate crest-type things...
DrunkenMonkey321: Never seen it
maskedcoconut: Cor, can't spell that. >.<
DrunkenMonkey321: Elaborate crest things, while cool, are kind of overdone though
maskedcoconut: Hmmm.
DrunkenMonkey321: And makes it very hard for a character to fit a spell into a situation without sounding like Batman from the old sixties show
DrunkenMonkey321: "Thank God I remembered my shark repellant!"
JetteSorcerer12: Or possibly use relic-jewelry-item type things that can be destroyed.
Skivvish: Ohhh yiss!
Skivvish: Relic-jewelry!!
Skivvish: That like...
maskedcoconut: Meh, not a big fan.
Skivvish: Turns to ashes after five uses or whatever.
Skivvish: Or (insert number)
DrunkenMonkey321: Too mathematical
Skivvish: *sulks*
Skivvish: Fine.
JetteSorcerer12: Not nessisarily. It could simply be destroyed by a well placed blow.
maskedcoconut: Kangerooo spoooon.
x kittoo: Magic is complicated.
maskedcoconut: It should be.
x kittoo: And someone is going to get pissed off.
JetteSorcerer12: Hmm.
DrunkenMonkey321: I don't think so
DrunkenMonkey321: Everyone I've met on BWE knows not to god-mode
x kittoo: No, I'm just saying... that... what someone said earlier about the weak apprentice person, kicking the knights ass...
maskedcoconut: Hnh. I s'pose...
DrunkenMonkey321: We could have something a bit like the Force
Skivvish: Woot!
DrunkenMonkey321: Where it all depends on a person's sense of will
maskedcoconut: There's an article on believable magic systems on hollylisle.com, see if I can dredge it up.
DrunkenMonkey321: For example. and I know this will make me sound like a huge nerd
Skivvish: *is a SW geek*
x kittoo: No worries, we're all in the same boat.
DrunkenMonkey321: But even though Luke was a kickass "wizard" he still couldn't use it on Jabba the Hut
DrunkenMonkey321: Hutt*
Skivvish: Yeah, that's true.
x kittoo: That can still be abused.
x kittoo: If someone has a 'perfect' character.
Skivvish: No one will.
maskedcoconut: Hnnnh. It seems kind of... easy. I know, it's not easy in Star Wars, but it should require the same or more training that being a master at some weapon
Skivvish: Blood too.
JetteSorcerer12: We could use PARTIAL elementals, along with forceish type things.
DrunkenMonkey321: But I really doubt that anyone on BWE would make a 'perfect' character
x kittoo: Yes, blood.
DrunkenMonkey321: Sepearate divsions, perhaps?
DrunkenMonkey321: Illsionary like Force type stuff, Elemental like Fireball stuff
JetteSorcerer12: Indeed.
maskedcoconut: Here, good article, good points: hollylisle.com/fm/Articles/rules-for-better-fantasy.html
JetteSorcerer12: Indeed.
DrunkenMonkey321: Good article, I disagree with a villains magic having to have good fall-out somewhere though
maskedcoconut: *hearts Hollie Lisle to no end*
DrunkenMonkey321: After all, I have yet to see the atomic
bomb that gave good results somewhere
maskedcoconut: Lemmee see, which point was it?
DrunkenMonkey321: I agree with everything else in point 2A just not that
maskedcoconut: Hmmm. All I can think of is that the atomic bomb made... grass grow...
maskedcoconut: *recalls Hiroshima and shrugs*
JetteSorcerer12: Indeed.
x kittoo: Don't agree with it either...
x kittoo: We can't be everywhere.
maskedcoconut: Ner... or the ripples would be so small the villain guy wouldn't see 'em, so werr.
DrunkenMonkey321: It can have repercussions, in fact it SHOULD have repercussions, it's only the positive repercussions I'm arguing against
maskedcoconut: Yes... maybe 'repercussions that were not intended' would fit better?
maskedcoconut: Or, 'repercussions contray to intention' or sunnink?
Skivvish: Yiss.
JetteSorcerer12: Ok, how about everyone gets their powers, maic or otherwise, from some form of tangible object...
JetteSorcerer12: And after so long, the object dies, so to speak...
DrunkenMonkey321: Well, the problem with getting your power from a tangible obhect
JetteSorcerer12: And they have to find another one.
DrunkenMonkey321: Is that a person's power is more reliant on that object than their own personal skill
JetteSorcerer12: The more powerful the spell you use, the more energy it drains..
maskedcoconut: Yes. Seconded.
x kittoo: Is this object to be something that was living...
Skivvish: Yeah true.
JetteSorcerer12: Not nessisarily.
JetteSorcerer12: About the living objects.
x kittoo: WELL, if you have magic you should have ghosts or something somewhere.
JetteSorcerer12: It could be. Or it could be a mineral that multiplies said person's spiritual capasity.
Skivvish: Oooh..
DrunkenMonkey321: Like the stones in the 'Elven Bane'?
JetteSorcerer12: Or a simple object inhabited by a spirit.
JetteSorcerer12: and yes.
DrunkenMonkey321: Well, who's to say there is only one form of magic?
x kittoo: We will never get to RP.
x kittoo: If someone does say that.
Skivvish: Heheheh.
Skivvish: Wait what?
JetteSorcerer12: There isn't. In the character thread, we could chose from two types of magic.
maskedcoconut: Prolly not tonight. Sorry, Jess, we're all picky writers...
DrunkenMonkey321: Well, different cultures have their own spin on everything
DrunkenMonkey321: Who's to say magic is any different?
JetteSorcerer12: And if we choose to use elements, we can only chose ONE.
Skivvish: One?
maskedcoconut: Hmm. But wouldn't the basis all be the same, somewhere?
DrunkenMonkey321: Gaara of the Desert, baby
maskedcoconut: Werr? *meeps*
DrunkenMonkey321: Is that what you're thinking, Jette?
JetteSorcerer12: Indeed.
x kittoo: * shrugs * Who is going to be magical?
Skivvish: Jette is.
JetteSorcerer12: I will. I know MA will be as well.
JetteSorcerer12: Aris might.
