I'm sure many of the people here probably know more about this than I, but for those who haven't, have you heard of NaNoWrimo (or however you're supposed to spell it)? Basic concept is this. Write 50,000 words in a month. No prior written stories can be used. You can come up with plot outlines and notes, but nothing else. Starts on November 1st, no prize but bragging rights. Normally I'd think this idea is kinda stupid, but I have to admit that I'm somewhat intrigued by the challenge. Any thoughts, guys?

Hmm... I dunno. I've heard of it, but I never knew anything much about it. Lots of people whose acquaintance I have made on FictionPress do it every year, but it generally leads to things that are rather hastily written and not terribly great. I also don't really have any great story ideas ready to go into the works at the moment, and I'd have to just whip something up out of thin air. I just dunno. I'd have to check out the particulars. Are you going to do it this year?

TEO does it most times, sometimes Canela does too.

I've been seriously considering it, and I think I might give it a try this year. If I do it, though, I want you to do it too, Oz. Misery loves company. ;D

I think I shall try too. My story will probably not be so good though.
Misery shall have lots of company.

Yes misery shall. This intriuges me! I still don't know what it means, but if it involves creative writting, I shall do it! ha ha!

I've been messing around with a recent plot idea I've had concerning a war between two countries. Still just a concept, but I'm pleased with the vague ideas I have going so far. I've been getting some good mental images from the Gorrilaz cd I just recently bought, so hopefully it'll go well.

I have about four or five general plot ideas that I could use, but I really don't know what I should go with...

Cool! The Gorillaz rock. Which CD? The new one? Both of them actually. At first I got Demon Days, and then a week later I just couldn't help myself and went back to Sam Goody to get their first one. 'S good stuff.

I would do that, but I don't have them numbered. And numbering them now would just be the same as picking one. *Sigh*

Yeah... same here. I just got their older one today. Very good.
Yeah, I have three plot ideas, but two of them are variations of other, copyrighted, ideas. That, and the third one would be a story about my RPing character, and what fun would that be?

The point of NaNoWriMo isn't to produce a GOOD novel, or even one that's not worth throwing out, but just to write something that long. Mine sucked horribly, but ended up giving me a sense of accomplishment, and an idea for a roleplay setting for the ASW and I... so it wasn't worthless. I was also justified in drinking massive amounts of coffee and buying a NaNo Novelist shirt.
It's fun. You're pretty much allowed to act completely crazy during November-- waking up at five to write, not speaking to real people, being OCD about word count... it's grand.
If y'all want to try it, the book 'No Plot, No Problem' helps a lot. Me and Canela bought it last year, and I don't think I would have made it through the month without its advice.
Last year I tried to plan my novel a week ahead, but it did really poorly, so I scrapped it and flew by the seat of my pants, and had much more fun. My sister, however, planned hers and it turned out okay, from what I hear. I'm not going to plan further than maybe my veeeery general theme this time. Whoot.
