Mhm. ^^
Stephanie: Gk. "Crowned"
Gk. meaning Greek, so you were right. ^^
The name first really appeared in popularity during the 1920s. Since then its been just moving along. (Hehe. The name comes from the same root as Stephen, who was also the first Christian martyr.)
It could be a 'oops we wanted a boy' name, like mine, (they're usually easy to spot. Like "Georgia" from "George" or "Joan" from "John". Mine is rather blatant: "Paula" from "Paul") but I don't know enough about the name to say for sure.

Yeah, I knew about the Stephen thing. My parents are Catholic, and their church refused to baptise children who didn't have a saint's name or some variation as part of their name. (Try knowing that and spending most of your life as an Agnostic.)
I like the name Georgia, never thought of it as an 'oops' name, but I wouldn't be able to name a child that without thinking of Georgia Nicholson and things like (and I'm probably misquoting, haven't read them in years) "It makes you look like you escaped from the funny lads' home."
Erm. Are TEO and I the only ones who get that reference?

This is an extreme irony if Skiv is correct, Oz. "Oz" being the name of a notorious prison (which is definitely not "peaceful") and Paxson meaning "Peace Town" (which very much is not a prison). She's right. It's my middle name, but the one I go by the most often. And what can I say, I'm a walking contradiction of good looks, bad tastes, genius inspirations and horrible grammar. I won't tell you guys the rest of my name, simply because I feel like being all mysterious and such, but I will let you know that I am the fourth person in my family tree to have it. Yes, I have 'the fourth' at the end of my name. Which also, totally makes me sound more like royalty than Canela.

Do you know where your parent's got the name Paxson, Oz? That's a rather odd name...it took me forever to find it.

I just know it's an old family name. I'm the Fourth of the current first name, Paxson, last name, variety, but I know that Paxson has been a family thing long before that. I always just assumed it was something we carried over from Ireland or wherever the hell my most recent ancestors hailed from before they came to America.
