Kenshin was alright, but it pales in comparison to Samurai X, where they go into the story of Kenshin as the Battosai.
Some of the best action scenes I have ever seen. Made even prettier by the excessive and gratuitous blood.

I have not been allowed to watch that movie, being considered too young to watch bloody horror foreign filmy things by my Mum.

Which is probably for the best that you didn't watch it with your parents, Furball. They would most certainly trip.
One of the least violent scenes has Kenshin shoving his sheath up into a guy's eye, pulling out his sword in the Batto-Jitsu style, and then proceeding to cut him in half.
Of course, they don't really show him get cut in half. But it is very violent and a lot more graphic than most anime fight scenes are. It borders right on that edge of really cool and really way too much detail.
I loves it.

Classic manga for me as well, and modern animation, not bad 70s shlock.
